St Dunstan's Abbey

St Dunstan's Abbey School for Girls was an independent day and boarding school, which educated girls from the ages of 3 - 18 years.

It also accepted boys and girls into its pre-school class of 3 and 4 year olds but the reception class (4+) and above were for girls only.

The school was, for many years, situated in an old anglican convent at Stonehouse, but a few years ago it moved to the site of the former Naval Hospital near Mountwise, which was renamed The Millfields. The Millfields site has a gymnasium, squash and tennis courts and a playing field.

The school had a roll of around 300 pupils and the average class sizes were around 15, this number is often being reduced for GCSE and A Level groups.

As well as the Preparatory and main school departments there was also an International Study Centre offering a range of intensive English and GCSE courses for foreign students.

The school was also an Associate School of the Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts. It was the region's only professional performing arts training academy, catering for boys and girls aged 3 - 18+ years and held classes on Saturdays and weekday evenings during term time. These were open to pupils from other schools.

In September 2002 a new Sixth Form Centre was opened to accommodate a Sixth Form of some 60 girls.
